Clear Windows Upon the City

Back to News

First impressions are always the most lasting, which is certainly the case with the New York Yacht Club’s incomparable Clubhouse on 44th Street, the defining feature of which are the 149 windows that grace the façade. But windows, of course, don’t last forever, and after 120 years those in Manhattan require serious attention.

The resulting Window Restoration project is being conducted in three phases, the first of which addressed the thirteen windows in the Library’s exterior wall.

Phase II of the multimillion-dollar effort is currently underway, and among other elements, utilizing modern materials and techniques, it will replace the Model Room’s three sets of 14-foot-high arched windows stationed above the curved casements that were designed to resemble the distinctive sterns of 17th century Dutch jachts. Once completed, the views—from outside and in—will be enduring.
